Proposa

From Prototype to MVP to MRR in 6 months

Introduction

Proposa is a SaaS company that serves enterprise sales teams. The product simplifies the creation and management of business proposals. I co-founded it with my former boss and team from Walk West.

Problem to Solve

Proposa started life as an internal tool that was hacked together in an evening. It was created to scratch our own itch and to meet the needs of our sales team.

We created the tool to help accelerate proposal creation and to better manage our sales pipeline. We ended up getting a lot of interest from our own clients about the proposals that we would send them.

Long story short, we decided to create a startup inside of the company.

Defining the MVP

Our team was lucky to have a validated prototype and heaps of feedback from our sales team at the start of this process. We used our initial learnings and access to our power users to focus on understanding the sales process and its pain points.

Once we understood where we could make improvements, we roadmapped our features and what would need to be delivered to make our commitments.

We worked as a team to wireframe the Proposal Creation, Dashboard, Account Management, and Onboarding experiences. This allowed us to better understand our technological needs as we were building this from scratch.

Branding

I worked with Rebekah Reeser to create a visual identity for Proposa. We collaborated on different marks, colors, typography, and assets. Our core theme revolved around a proposal's ability to become anything. We latched onto visual motifs that reminded us of infinite possibilities, origami, and space.

UX/UI Design

I took the visual direction and created a UI for Proposa that was simple, minimal, and out of the way. I focused on creating building blocks that could be used like legos to create beautiful but effective proposals. The modular approach for the UI actually made it easier for us to release Template and Template Libraries for our users.

Conclusion

After releasing successful beta versions of Proposa to our investors and test users, we officially launched in 2017. The web app has grown to include integrations with popular CRM tools and continues to improve upon proposal creation and management. We recently attended Techstars and garnered the attention of even more investors.

Special thanks to Brian Onorio, Ryan Scotton, and Adam Sentner.
